FAQ
Yes! We encourage you to do so! If you can get there by public transport, by foot or bike. We will share the locations of your trees and forest. Plan you trip carefully and enjoy. We always try to plant our forests on publicly available land, so that you can visit them. We don’t want to encourage you to take a flight, or car to visit the forest. If it is too far to get there sustainably, enjoy your forests digitally through our updates and stories.
As many as possible of course. Ever heard of the great Johnny Stryker? He planted over 2 million trees and is still going. A typical European would do with 47 trees every year to compensate for their carbon footprint. Are you average though?
Planting trees is a necessary step to fight climate change. We need massive change and one of these is restoring our forests. However, action on all fields is needed to stay below 1.5 degrees temperature increase.
We keep track together with our partner nature organisation of everythings that happens in the forests and publish all our impact on our website. We also go and visit our forests on a regular basis and use scientific models to estimate the carbon content of trees. If you have any questions, reach out to us, and do have a visit to one of our forests to check for yourself :-).
Yes, we are registered as a non-profit charity in the Netherlands. We are registered in the Netherlands as foundation under the name Stichting The Nature Network and Chamber of Commerce number 81170300. Treemendo is the main project of the foundation. You can find more info about the foundation on www.thenaturenetwork.nl.
As a charity registered in the Netherlands 100% of the money goes towards our mission. All our revenue goes directly towards achieving our goal: to create a strong network of forests and people. Our profit is measured in impact, and this is reflected in how we spend your money. Transparency and trust are core values of ours.
We select our partners with a lot of care to ensure that the forests are protected. These partners check up on the forests regularly and are experts when it comes down to taking care of healthy diverse forests. We sign agreements to ensure the protection of the trees.
20 billion trees are cut down globally every year. As a whole only 10 billion trees are regrown every year. Everyone can do the math: we are still losing 10 billion trees in total. Though, progress is made. It is not to late to reach 1 trillion extra trees by 2050.
Depending on the location, and survival rates of young trees, the saplings are planted from 4 to 24 months of age.
We strive for a survival rates of 90% for the first year, this is internationally a high forestry standard. Nature is of course, unpredictable and many different things can affect trees. So after planting, our partners will make sure the trees are checked. They check their health and make sure new trees are planted if needed. If one of your trees dies, it is mere bad luck, but also part of a totally natural process. When something dies in nature, it will still have an important role in the forest. However, if you want to make sure your tree survives, we suggest you buy a variety of trees in different locations to spread the risk ;)
We partner with experienced forestry organisation to ensure the sites are being monitored and maintained. In addition to their high standards, Treemendo also monitors the sites by site visits. In the near future we hope to extend our monitoring by including automated sensors. Stay tuned to follow our developments!
CO2 from the air can be taken up by the leafs of a tree, after which it is turned into carbon. The carbon sequestration (or carbon storing) of a tree depends on the species and the local climate. A tree sequesters on average 150 kg carbon in 20 years.
In most cases Treemendo partners with landowners. Our forests are mostly located on community owned, state, and private land. Regardless of the owners, we always sign agreements to secure the long-term protection of the forests.
In most cases Treemendo partners with experienced nature organisations. In most cases they manage and own the land and the trees.
The time between your donation and the actual tree planting will vary depending on the region you have chosen and the time of year. Planting usually happens during the rain or winter season, when the soil provides optimum conditions for tree survival.
We will share as much information about the forest and your trees as we possibly can, so you can keep track of the growth of the forest and much more. Of course we invite you to come and visit to see for youself ;)
Currently we are not planting on locations where there is a significant fire hazard. In the future we do want to establish a tree guarantee fund in collaboration with a sustainable bank as guarantor to replant a forest if it was ever needed.
This depends on the location. For logistical reasons, for instance because of dependency on the whether and the tree nurseries, we can’t guarantee that you can plant your own tree, we hope you understand.
Yes, we realise that the most impact can be made together. We would love you to get involved. Shoot us an email to info@treemendo.com.
Send us an email to info@treemendo.com with your questions and comments (and compliments ;))
We created this service to enable companies to contribute to the climate and biodiversity emergency.
We run this non-profit platform to help your company to run climate and nature positive.
We allow you to connect with your forest and can track how it grows. In this way you are assured that your contribution goes towards this mission.
Check out our Mission page for more details on the above.
A climate positive crew is when every person in your organisation has their entire carbon footprint offset because they work for your organisation. The carbon footprint includes your employees’ emissions at work in office and/or home, during business travel, and their personal emissions.
The average carbon footprint is around 10 tonnes of CO2 per year, we add a good amount of margin to be climate positive.
Absolutely! This requires some extra calculations and time though, that is why we have made it easy for you. As there is no time to waste, please start by offsetting your average employees emissions with Treemendo (we included a wide safety margin in it to make sure we cover your emissions).
For those that really want to get in to the nuts and bolts of their organisation and calculate precisely how much you emit, brilliant! Please send us an email to plant@treemendo.com
